The Healy Lake Watershed lies east of the Richardson Highway and includes the Alaska Highway and the Tanana River between Big Delta and the Robertson River, including the Goodpaster River, Clearwater Creek, Gerstle River, Johnson River and Healy Lake. The Goodpaster River has one of the five largest runs of Chinook salmon in the Tanana River returning to spawn, and the Tanana hosts about 20% of the Chinook salmon returning to spawn for the entire Yukon River!
TVWA, with funding from the US Fish & Wildlife Service, is developing a Watershed Resource Action Plan (WRAP) and MAP (Mapping Aquatic Priorities). The WRAP MAP process involves three two-hour workshops with local stakeholders and resource agencies to identify important resources within the Healy Lake watershed, develop a plan to address resource concerns, and compile available information into maps that can be used to help future stewardship.
Our first meeting was March 31st from 2 to 4pm. Click HERE to listen to a recording of our first meeting.
